Q Shelter DEI Working Group mission

Our mission is to build a working environment as diverse as the world we serve, where every voice is heard, every perspective is respected, and every opportunity is accessible.

Purpose

Q Shelter embraces diversity and works purposefully towards teams and individuals becoming leaders in inclusive practices, ensuring that all people from diverse backgrounds feel welcome, safe, supported, and valued. The DEI Working Group is central to this commitment, with the purpose of ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion are consistently prioritised and embedded into Q Shelter’s policies, procedures, and everyday interactions.

Planned activities

The DEI Working Group is excited to promote several impactful projects over the next 12 months aimed at enhancing inclusivity and awareness within our organisation and the broader sector.

Key initiatives include:

  • Sourcing training on cultural competence and First Nations peoples
  • Increasing LGBTQIA+ visibility
  • Exploring a flexible public holiday policy
  • Participating in cultural and historical tours
  • Integrating DEI into the induction process
  • Improving accessibility for individuals with disabilities
  • Encouraging discussions on mental health
  • Developing policies for inclusive procurement
  • Celebrating diverse cultures through educational resources and activities.
