Housing Older Women Movement

The HOW Movement is a coalition of individuals with lived experience of housing insecurity. It also includes organisations from across the community, government, and private sectors. They seek to reduce the risk of homelessness for older women by designing real solutions.

Q Shelter has been supporting the HOW Movement since 2019. In February 2022, Q Shelter was delighted to see their advocacy influence the Queensland Government’s announcement of a $14 million investment to build new homes and deliver specialised housing support services to older women.

Q Shelter is supporting a group of peer leaders who have a lived experience of housing need and homelessness. Support includes structured peer leadership training.

This group, Neighbourly, is growing as a voice for housing solutions and more connected communities. In 2021, they were one of the recipients of the Deirdre Coghlan Professional Development Bursary.
